Description
The 2021 International Building Code (IBC) applies to all buildings except single-family homes and townhouses up to three stories. This edition introduces several important changes:

Puzzle rooms (escape rooms) now qualify as special entertainment venues. They must follow Section 411 and meet specific exit requirements.

When counting monitoring areas, each section separated by one or more firewalls counts as a separate building.

In Group E facilities, classrooms up to 20,000 cubic feet must meet improved acoustics standards according to ICC A117.1.

Requirements for Type I, II, III, and IV exterior wall composite metal materials (MCM) have been simplified, and sprinklers have been removed.

Provisions now explicitly address the use of intermodal shipping containers as structures, supplementing existing IBC rules.
